FONT

Today I researched the different effects that fonts in movies have on viewers at Altheta. For my opening, I will need to spell things like the director's name or the movie's name, so research on fonts will be ideal to choose the font for my action movie opening.

The purpose of fonts in movies is to convey specific emotions to the viewer. Some of the most basic movie font categories are serif, sans serif, script, and decorative fonts. Each font conveys a different reaction from the viewers.

Serif fonts give a sense of seriousness or formality, they are commonly seen in horror movies or industry movies. Sans serif fonts are contemporary or clean, they can commonly be seen around action movies or intense comedies. Script fonts are light and emotional, and are commonly seen around love movies or heartfelt dramas. Lastly are decorative fonts, these are very thematic and can be seen in a variety of different movies.

Decorative fonts are a more playful version of other fonts, for example, a decorated font can be used in a family-friendly movie. It’s an adaptation of a font used for an action movie, having the font more rounded on the edges, and adding a more playful color as well. Decorative fonts also have brighter colors to go along with the theme of the movie, a slight change of a script font can be used for a movie based on a romantic theme, brighter colors, and sharper edges.

Overall, the fonts used in a movie are a preview of what the movie is going to entail, it brings anticipation to the viewers. Fonts are also altered by size, the bigger and bolder the font is the more dramatic the effect. When the font is fitted for a movie cover, producers take into consideration the type of movie they are creating and alter the font's size, color, and shape to correctly fit their movie's description. The color of the writing such as soft colors like baby pink or pastels could give off a romantic or light effect while bold colors such as red, blue, or black indicate more of an action genre or a horror movie. This is so because they draw more attention and have more of a striking first impression.

  • DECORATIVE FONTS:

With all this information regarding font in movies, I have decided to use Sans Serif fonts with dark accents, a bold title, and bright attractive colors such as red, black, blue, or gold. By doing this I hope to gain the attention of my viewers and convey anticipation and excitement.
